Possibly the best way to explore Scotland’s ‘mainland island’

If you are considering walking, cycle or run the Kintyre Way, then you are choosing one of the best ways to discover the beautiful wild Atlantic coast of the Kintyre peninsula.

This long-distance walking route from Tarbert to Machrihanish covers 100 miles (161 km) over 7 sections ranging from 9 miles to 20 miles (14 km to 32 km).

Taking around 4-7 days you will discover hidden coves, deserted beaches, woods and forests, castles and fishing villages and an abundance of wildlife.

The trail offers a variety of walking terrain from serious hiking to gentle rambles.

For all you need to know, visit the Kintyre Way website.

Why not stay a while?

You might consider resting your weary feet at Dunaverty Self Catering accommodation.

We’re in an ideal spot conveniently located between the penultimate section – Campbeltown to Dunaverty and the final Southend to Machrihanish, so you can rest and build up strength needed for this tough final section.

What our walkers of the Kintyre Way guests say:

Outstanding accommodation

My friend and I stayed in the Summer Cottage for one night after walking the Kintyre Way.
It was a truly unforgettable experience and apart from the outstanding accommodation the hospitality shown to us by Donnie and his son was amazing.

The view as the sun set on the water was spectacular and to top it all off we awoke to find otters playing in the water right outside the cottage.

We have raved about this place and Donnie to all our friends and highly recommend this place.
We would definitely stay here again and hope to do so one day.

Memorable self-catering property in a great location

4 of us stayed one night in the Sea Captain's House at Dunaverty Rock, while walking the Kintyre Way, which passes very close to the property.

The window seat in the living room provides a great view across Dunaverty Bay, with lots of wildlife-watching opportunities, while out the back of the property is a lovely little cove surrounded by cliffs and more wildlife. A memorable spot.

Donnie the owner is particularly friendly and helpful.

A great find. Highly recommended. Beautiful sea views.

We stayed 2 wonderful nights in the Summer Cottage and wished we could have stayed longer. This is a beautiful, tranquil place ideally situated with fantastic sea views and sunsets.

This was our first visit to Kintyre and for any future trips we will definitely head back to the Dunaverty Rock Boathouse.

Our host, Donnie, is great and he made us feel welcome. He greeted us warmly after our 16.5 mile hike from Campbeltown, even helping me off with my walking boots!

We can highly recommend the Dunaverty Rock Boathouse and its stunning views. It is ideally situated as it's on The Kintyre Way. It is a short walk to the village of Southend where there is small shop, nice tea-room and a welcoming pub that serves meals.
Thanks Donnie for a great stay.

Worth 7 Stars Not a Mere 5 – Totally Fantastic

The Lifeboat Studio is in a fantastic location right next to the beach and the site of the old Dunaverty Castle and at the end of the Kintyre Way. The studio was exceptionally clean and all the beds were very comfortable for us four walkers. The shower was also excellent. It is a very peaceful location. Only minor points ( if you are bothered about technology ) is that the phone signal and wifi is intermittent.

The Owner Donnie is exceptional. He made us feel very welcome. He offered to do some washing for us and then drove us to Campeltown early the following morning refusing any payment so that we could catch an early bus to Tarbet and ferry to start the Cowal Way walk.

It would have been good to have stayed here for more than just the one night.
