Wildlife at Dunaverty
A bird watching and wildlife paradise
From our doorstep there’s every chance of spotting a variety of wildlife.
Gannets come over from Ailsa Craig to feed, breeding waders including oyster catchers and ringed plovers and nesting fulmar, also small flocks of sanderling and dunlin. Other regular sighted species include swallows, house martins and sand martins, herons and in spring the skylarks. Plus a variety of other species; cormorants, geese, guillemots, great northern divers, kittiwakes, gulls, ravens and cuckoos.
In the Kintyre area there are records of peregrine falcons, golden eagles and a white tailed sea eagle.
On the shoreline you may be treated to a glimpse of otters; the area in front of the cemetery is a favourite sunbathing spot for seals. In and around the fields and and up on the hills keep your eyes peeled for deer, foxes and ferral goats and occasionally cattle wandering across the beach.
Many thanks to visiting photographers Amanda Gillies, Tom Parnell and especially the talented James Brown.
